For years we have been using VRBO to
advertise our property in
Key West and have been very
satisfied. Then, VRBO was purchased by
Expedia and everything changed.
1) They raised the
advertising listing fee by 25%
from $400 to $500 and by
the way, we have no issues with that.
But they are now forcing homeowners
to enable online booking so that they can
charge a $400 service fee to you the
For our particular
property in Key West, it means VRBO fees
are going from $400 per year in 2017
to $5300 in 2018.
We see a huge problem
with this dishonest practice by
Homeaway/VRBO CEO Brian Sharples.
Because VRBO represents 80% of our bookings,
we feel trapped and have no choice but
to fight back by
encouraging people to contact us directly
through Chateau de Miserai
website and avoid
this outrageous VRBO
service fee altogether.
We have already paid for the VRBO listing,
you should not have to pay them more for a
non existent service.
Our low season fee August to November
is $7600 plus tax and cleaning.
Our standard rental fee is $8600 plus
tax and cleaning.
